Our People

John Chamberlain John Chamberlain
Working with wood has been both vocation and avocation for John since the 1980s. He joined Foster Custom Woodworks in 2007, building furniture and cabinets from bamboo and bloodwood (a well-named material, he's discovered!) as well as traditional hardwoods. In his free time, he turns wood on lathes in his own shop - everything from spindles to large bowls. Before joining Foster, John worked as an independent carpenter and before that, as a millwright at Ithaca Millworks. He and his wife live on the edge of 12,000 acres of state land, and they cherish their time outdoors and the ease with which they can hike, bicycle and canoe. Originally from Iowa, John studied anthropology and biology - including dendrology - at Iowa State. Dendrology enriches his appreciation for wood, and anthropology, his understanding of people.
